Artist Statement

My artwork is influenced by a career as a communicator in the creative industries: as a journalist; government information officer and broadcasting regulator. I communicate via words, art and music.

The artistic interpretation of messages depends upon colour, texture and design and art evolves from the use of a wide range of sustainable and recycled materials. There is always a narrative: about the materials and surfaces used and the process of making.

Finished works may be wall hung paintings and prints, ceramics, architectural pieces, textiles or jewellery.

I am also a performer, singing and acting with Notts Operatic Society, NTU Choir and St Leonard’s Church ,Wollaton and other theatre companies.

About Me

Studying art as a mature student –achieving a BA in Fine Art from the University of Nottingham and an MA from Nottingham Trent University- changed my life. I gained confidence to take risks and follow new paths in communicating messages via art; often using challenging materials and fusing processes. Sustainability is at the heart of my practice.

I work from my home studio and join forces with the Rufford Arts Society and Kith Artist Collective to exhibit. The art practice has become a social enterprise and profits benefit local charities.

Having enjoyed a high profile career in the creative industries and latterly specialising in strategic consultancy I continue to use my skills in a voluntary capacity. I am an NTU Alumni Fellow and recently joined the Board of Music for Everyone.
